What Types of Anesthesia do We Administer During Cosmetic, Surgical Procedures?
Your safety is our number one priority, which is why we are committed to explaining the anesthesia process to put our clients at ease.
There are different types of anesthesia that are commonly used during cosmetic and plastic surgeries for a pain-free and comfortable procedure. The different types of anesthesia that are generally used during surgical procedures include general anesthesia and local anesthesia, which we administer for facelifts.
General anesthesia is essential in certain plastic surgery procedures. It involves a combination of intravenous medications and inhaled gasses or anesthetics, that put the client under sedation or a “sleep-like state” that leaves them unconscious. Typically, general anesthesia should be avoided unless necessary due to the risks associated with this particular anesthesia. According to several studies, general anesthesia is the “riskiest of all types of anesthesia” due to the risk of swelling, infection, and increased heart rate and blood pressure that may occur.
Local anesthesia is the recommended safer option for certain types of surgical and nonsurgical procedures. Local anesthesia is any technique used to prevent pain while keeping the client conscious during minor surgical procedures. This local anesthesia procedure, which we use, is commonly known as the “awake facelift” procedure and is intended to reduce bruising and swelling. We safely administer local anesthesia with oral sedation.
One of the benefits of local anesthesia is a faster recovery time. In general, patients do not have to wait until their body is cleared of general anesthetics. Sometimes the effects of general anesthesia can remain for several days. With local anesthetics, the effects do not often linger for a long period of time. If you’re hoping to run errands after a facelift, you don’t have to worry about waiting it out. (Just make sure to check in with the office and consult our plastic surgeon before leaving).
Here at Aventura Plastic Surgery, we use local anesthesia to increase both the safety and speed of recovery for our fantastic facelifts. You can save up to $3,000 on your facelift procedures with our carefully administered oral sedation and local anesthesia that helps the procedure feel comfortable and pain-free. Our facelift cost is significantly lower than other Florida plastic surgeons in the area.
Other types of anesthesia include sedation and regional anesthesia, which is generally intended to numb a larger area. An example of this form of anesthesia may include an epidural anesthesia during the labor process. In plastic surgery, regional anesthesia may also be used for more complicated and larger area procedures.
Why get a Facelift?
