As cosmetic surgery increases in popularity, many people seek the best locations to have a procedure. Here are six of the top cosmetic surgery destinations worldwide:

Atlanta, Georgia


Atlanta has about 16 board certified plastic surgeons per 100,000 people, the second highest concentration of plastic surgeons within the United States. This may be due to the fact that a large portion of Atlanta’s population is between the ages of 25 and 40, the most common age group to receive cosmetic surgery.

Los Angeles, California


Although Los Angeles only has about three or four plastic surgeons per 100,000 people, many of these surgeons are some of the highest-rated in the country. More than 130 plastic surgeons in California were on the “U.S. News List of Top Doctors,” and 32 were on the “America’s Top Doctors” list. L.A. is home to Hollywood and many U.S. celebrities, so its plastic surgeons are top-notch.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil


The country of Brazil as a whole has one of the highest numbers of plastic surgeons per capita. Dr. Ivo Patinguy, a renowned plastic surgeon, practices in Rio de Janeiro. Dozens of cosmetic surgeons train at his clinic every year. Rio de Janeiro is a popular destination for medical tourism, especially for procedures like tummy tucks, face lifts, and rhinoplasty.

New York, New York


With hundreds of plastic surgeons in Manhattan alone, New York City has the highest number of cosmetic surgeons in the United States. Manhattan also has nine major hospitals. Dr. Matthew Schulman, a popular New York City plastic surgeon, was on the list of “Top Plastic Surgeons in America” and Castle Connolly’s list of “America’s Top Doctors.”

Seoul, South Korea


Seoul has a huge market for plastic surgery. About 20 percent of Korean woman between the ages of 19 and 49 have had some type of cosmetic surgery. Seoul is a very popular destination for medical tourism, partially because their advanced technology in hospitals. Celebrity emulation procedures are particularly popular in the city, maybe because of the popularity of Korean pop music.

Miami, Florida


Miami is the top destination in the United States and one of the top in the entire world for cosmetic surgery destinations. The city has 18 board-certified plastic surgeons per 100,000 people, the highest concentration in the United States and potentially the highest in the world. The city is home to several hospitals where people can receive cosmetic procedures. The show “Nip/Tuck,” a drama set in a cosmetic surgery center, was set in Miami for four of its six seasons.
