Refreshing Your Skincare Routine for Fall

Any great skincare routine starts with one word: Hydration. Make sure your skin receives the nutrients it needs to look lifted and healthy year-long.

We often fall back into our bad habits during the months we just want to hibernate and sip a warm cup of hot cocoa. We’re here to remind you not to “fall” behind on your skincare routine this season. We have five tips for maintaining healthy, dewy skin:

1. Stay Hydrated

We can’t stress this enough. Are you drinking the recommended daily intake of 8 glasses of water, or are you skipping out on the doctor’s orders? By drinking water on a regular basis, not only are you eliminating toxins from your body, but you’re also doing your skin a favor by restoring its glow. So, drink up. Get creative and pour a glass of water into your favorite mason jar with a few slices of lemon and cucumbers to help detox and help you feel less bloated. These small changes make a world of difference. If you stick with this routine, you’ll get natural, glowing skin.

2. Keep Chapped Skin Moisturized

Chapped skin can be both embarrassing and troublesome, especially if you have an important date or interview. You don’t want to keep licking your lips or constantly reapply the wrong type of balm on your skin. Burt’s Bees has great, natural products for targeting dry, chapped skin. Think about investing in an almond and milk hand cream from Burt’s Bees or Hand Salve, which contains fruit oils, eucalyptus oil, and various other natural ingredients that can calm irritation and soothe the skin.

3. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen

Even though summer is over, it is still important to use a good moisturizer with SPF and invest in hydrating serums that are rich in antioxidants. Even though the sun may be hiding during the autumn months, it is still able to damage the skin. Sun exposure potency is not seasonal; skin damage can happen at any time during the year. It is recommended that you should avoid sun exposure during the hours of 10 am – 4 p.m. If you do go out, you need to make sure you are using sunscreen (aim for 50+ SPF). Don’t fall prey to the myth that you don’t need to apply sunscreen during the cooler months.

4. Exfoliate your skin

Your skin goes through a lot on a daily basis, including exposure to environmental pollutants and wind that can wreak havoc on your allergies. This is why it is important to invest in gentle, non-abrasive exfoliants or cleansers that can remove blackheads, toxins, and impurities from the face. Consider the Refreshing Scrub Cleanser from Origins, which contains Panax Ginseng to boost radiance and glow, as well as natural coffee beans and jojoba and carnauba wax to open up your pores and make your face look healthy and lifted.

5. Treat yourself to a DIY mask

Are you on a budget, or is your skin sensitive to a ton of skincare masks out there on the market? No worries. Consider making your own hydrating mask using just a few essential natural ingredients like oatmeal, bananas, yogurt, honey, avocados or matcha powder or turmeric. You can add some water to matcha powder, stir it in a little bit, and then apply it on your face to dry. Matcha has great detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties that work to repel pollutants and toxins from the skin. You can also use turmeric powder with yogurt to create a mask. Turmeric helps brighten the skin and keeps it looking firm and lifted.

We hope these simple skincare routine tips help you get started on a new, healthy journey to feeling more rejuvenated and confident in the skin you’re in!
