Nose Surgery & Rhinoplasty in Miami
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job,” is a surgery designed to reshape the nose to enhance its appearance or function. This is often used to make the nose better fit the face, such as increasing or decreasing the overall size, removing a hump, reshaping the bridge, altering the size of the nostrils, raising or reshaping the tip of the nose, or a myriad of other changes. It can also be used to improve the function of the nose, often helping to treat snoring or other impediments to breathing. Often, the nose can be both aesthetically and functionally enhanced at the same time.
Who Gets a Nose Job?
Every year thousands of people in the Miami area choose to undergo rhinoplasty as a means of improving their appearance and health. Generally, this surgery is only performed on adults whose noses have finished growing (typically around the age of fourteen or after). Once seen as a thing to be kept secret, rhinoplasty has become widely accepted with many celebrities, athletes, and others undergoing the procedure. In fact, in 2012 there were more than 240,000 rhinoplasty procedures performed in the United States, making it the second most popular form of plastic surgery (second only to liposuction).

What Makes Aventura Plastic Surgery The Number One Choice for Miami Rhinoplasty?
Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Galitz is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, otolaryngologist, and head and neck surgeon. Having performed over 3,500 rhinoplasties throughout his career, he has extensive experience in revision and complicated rhinoplasty. Dr. Galitz performs rhinoplasty in the office surgical suite at Aventura Plastic Surgery in Aventura, Florida, and typical procedures take just one to two hours to complete. That has made Dr. Galitz and Aventura Plastic Surgery the choice for Miami rhinoplasty procedures.
Will There Be Scarring?
Rhinoplasty may be performed using an “open” approach, in which a small incision is made on the columella (the column of skin between the nostrils), or a “closed” approach in which the incisions are confined to the inside of the nose, resulting in no visible scarring. The choice between open and closed rhinoplasty will depend on the particular case, but in either instance scarring is either completely concealed or hardly noticeable. There are a number of different techniques which may be used to reshape the nose depending on the condition to be addressed. This can range from simple reduction rhinoplasty to more extensive cartilage grafting and augmentation.
How Long Does it Take to Recover from Rhinoplasty?
The recovery after nose surgery typically takes approximately one to two weeks. That is another reason many patients choose Aventura Plastic Surgery for their rhinoplasty needs: they can enjoy the tropical climate and multitude of relaxing activities during a small vacation used to recover before returning to work. During recovery, a splint is applied to the nose that remains in place for one to two weeks. Some discomfort, swelling, bleeding and bruising may occur, but will usually mostly dissipate within two weeks. However, some minor swelling can last for as much as a year. Stitches are removed within five to seven days, and patients can usually return to work in just one week. Patients are typically able to resume exercise and other strenuous activities after two weeks. But, as with any surgery, there are potential risks. These are generally related to aesthetics, as rhinoplasty itself is a very safe procedure.
