Aventura Botox Injections Near You
Botox treatments have become increasingly more accessible over the last few years, therefore it has become increasingly popular amongst all age groups over 18. Once only available to those with an elite or celebrity status, Botox has become one of the most versatile medical treatments of the century. Generally known for its powerful beautifying abilities, Botox is also used for its ability to assist in pain management and other various health factors.
In 1987, Botox was approved for medical use only, but by 2002 the FDA approved the injections for cosmetic use as well. By 2006, Botox was a booming industry netting over a billion dollars a year. Once approved for cosmetic use, Botox became popular for its ability to smooth and treat wrinkles in the face. It was originally approved to treat glabellar lines in 2002, but now it is used vastly in the medical field. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), over 7.4 million Botox treatments were administered in the US in 2018. This shows that not only has Botox become more popular, but it has also become more accessible.

What Is Botox?
Botox stems from a type of bacteria known as Clostridium Botulinum. It’s the same bacteria that causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning known as botulism. This bacteria was originally discovered in 1987, but it wasn’t until the 1920s through the 1940s that scientists discovered this form of bacteria could be purified. Once purified the bacteria took crystalline form and was discovered to be effective in relaxing overactive muscles and spasms in small doses.
These days, Botox is a safe and effective way to cosmetically treat wrinkles through a minimally invasive series of injections, similar to Juvederm. These injections are placed where the cosmetologist believes it will help to smooth wrinkles and give the patient a more youthful appearance, such as the lips or frown marks.
Various Ways Botox Can Be Utilized Near You
Botox was originally designed and intended for medical use. The bacteria, Clostridium Botulinum, turns into a toxin once purified better known as onobotulinumtoxinA, which causes temporary paralysis of the muscle. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, neck or eye spasms, overactive bladder symptoms, and even migraines. Those are just a few of the many ways Botox can improve the lives of many individuals.
Chronic Migraines
Not all people experience the severe debilitating pain a migraine can create. These severe headaches are typically accompanied by light and noise sensitivity as well as nausea. Chronic migraines are known to last 4 or more hours and occur at least 15 days a month.
Botox is used to treat chronic migraines in individuals over the age of 18. The treatment consists of several injections in the neck and side of the face. Botox works by effectively blocking the pathway of neurotransmitters and molecules associated with pain. The Botox is placed near nerves and muscles in the side of the face and neck because these areas are generally where the Botox works most effectively to block the pain from being received by the muscle.
Excessive Sweating
Hyperhydrosis is the medical term for excessive underarm sweating. This is caused by the nerves in the underarms triggering the sweat glands, even when there is an absence of normal triggers such as heat, embarrassment, and fear.
Botox is effectively used to lessen excessive underarm sweating. In fact, when used properly Botox can reduce underarm moisture by 82%-87%. By injecting Botox into the muscles that are directly responsible for pumping sweat to the surface of the skin, the injections can prevent the sweat glands from overproducing. Many individuals use it in their armpits, but it can effectively be used to treat excessive hand or groin sweating.
Overactive Bladder
When an individual is diagnosed with an overactive bladder, their bladder contracts frequently and unexpectedly. Constant contractions of the bladder will eventually make the bladder lose control of its ability to hold urine. This is also known as urinary incontinence or frequent urination. Individuals with an overactive bladder often have a sudden urge to urinate, even if they just relieved themselves.
Urologists effectively use Botox to treat overactive bladders by injecting it into the bladder via a cystoscope which is a special instrument inserted through the urethra. Botox injections work by helping the bladder contract on a more regular basis and help the patient return to normal urination.
Cervical Dystonia
Cervical Dystonia is a nerve disorder that causes the neck and shoulder muscles to contract involuntarily. Eventually, this leads to a series of uncontrollable actions such as head tilting, head-turning, muscle tremors, and severe pain.
Botox is effectively used to treat cervical dystonia by injecting it into the neck and shoulders. These injections will allow the muscles in the shoulder and neck to relax and relieve some of the symptoms of cervical dystonia.
What To Expect When Receiving Botox Injections
No matter the reason why an individual opted for Botox injections, the process is generally the same, just on a different part of the body according to each patient’s needs. Once an individual and their doctor have agreed on a Botox treatment plan, the doctor will give them instructions on how to prepare before, during, and after they receive the injections. Here are our general rules to follow before, during, and after a Botox treatment. We are also partnered with the Brilliant Distinctions Points Program, therefore if any individual wants to redeem their points on treatments, they can do so for money off on future treatments.
Before
The object of receiving Botox, especially cosmetically, is to achieve results that are subtle and natural without being invasive. One factor that can prevent an individual from benefiting from the effects of Botox is excessive bruising. A small amount of bruising within the first day is to be expected, but a medium to a large amount of bruising is what we would like to prevent. To prevent more bruising than necessary we recommend that our patients:
- Refrain from consuming wine or other alcohol for 7 days before receiving Botox
- Refrain from taking anti-inflammatories for 7 days before receiving Botox
- Refrain from wearing makeup
During
Botox injections are performed with a needle similar to the size of the ones used to administer insulin. This tiny needle is meant to keep the patient comfortable. Patients may feel a little pinching sensation, but that it normal and typically pain-free.
For those who are scared of needles, they can simply relax and close their eyes during the procedure to allow them to be calm. Ice packs can also be held to the area where the injections will be placed to numb the skin prior to the procedure should they choose to.
After
Immediately after receiving Botox injections, the patient will notice little bumps and tiny dots of blood where they received the injections. These typically go away within 20 to 30 minutes. However, the skin smoothing or medical effects typically don’t present themselves for 5 days after the Botox injections.
It is very important to take care of the area where the Botox injections were placed in the days following. Therefore we recommend:
- Not going to the gym or working out for the first day after receiving Botox injections
- Not using makeup for at least 24 hours after receiving Botox injections
- Use a gentle skin cleanser
- Not getting Botox too often
Risks of Botox Injections
As with any cosmetic or medical procedure, there are risks and side effects attached. Botox is FDA approved and generally safe if administered by an experienced and licensed cosmetic surgeon. Side effects that could appear after receiving Botox injections can include:
- Pain, swelling, or slight bruising at the injection site
- Droopy eyelids or cockeyed eyebrows
- Drooling or a crooked smile
- Dryness in the eyes or excessive sweating
There is a small chance that the toxin used in Botox could spread throughout the body. However, the chances of this happening are minute. In the rare case that this does happen, it is important to call the administering doctor and seek medical treatment right away if they experience:
- Vision problems
- Muscle weakness
- Trouble with swallowing or speaking
- Loss of bladder control
- Breathing problems
Botox is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding adults. Additionally, it should not be administered to individuals who have an allergy to cow’s milk.
